One Dish Wonders

Clean Eating Pasta Sauce

I am admitting to the world that I have a problem. That’s the first step to recovery, right? My problem involves my mouth and what I like to put in it. Mainly food. I have tried every fad diet out there, and really, none of them worked. (Honestly, I have tried them all! It’s so sad!)  I might lose a few pounds, I get down close to my goal, and then I eat. Apparently, I eat too much, because the weight comes back little bits at a time. So I’ve decided fad diets aren’t the way to go, at least not for me. Instead, I’m working toward clean eating. What does that mean? For me, it means that I eat food that is as close to its natural state as possible. Clean Eating Pasta Sauce fits into this perfectly.

This is something I’ve been implementing slowly in our house. I bake our bread, make our peanut butter, use dried beans, and always have a refrigerator full of fresh fruit and veggies. I’ve posted my clean peanut butter recipe, and my goal is that at least 95% of my recipes on this blog will deal with clean eating. Scratch is always best!

It is extremely important to me that my family eat foods that are not processed. I truly believe that many of the health problems in this country are related to the foods that we consume. Not only do we eat too much, but we eat too processed. Both are unhealthy!

Clean Eating Pasta Sauce Recipe…

Tonight my family wanted spaghetti for supper, which is great! I love pasta and this can be a very fast meal. However, canned sauces usually have way too many extra ingredients and sugar added. I wanted something better. So I concocted what we believe is a very good, fast, no sugar added, spaghetti sauce. I started Clean Eating Pasta Sauce when I got home, picked up our daughter from practice, went for a walk, and came back to a pot of tomato goodness, all in less than 1 1/2 hours!

This recipe  for Clean Eating Pasta Sauce yields 2 1/2 cups of sauce. This sauce can easily be doubled for a crowd and leftovers can be frozen for later. This sauce has all the great flavor of Italian food, but none of the additives that big companies often stick in their “recipes.” I’d like to think that if my grandmas were Italian, they would very much approve of this recipe. 🙂
